Dawson county was established around 1869 and at one time included most of Eastern Montana. The Richey Historical museum, located in the town of Richey, is made up of has six buildings: the main museum, the Lisk Creek school, circa1914, a homestead shack, a small building where you will find displayed artifacts from the first store and the butcher shop, the Old Richey Jail, circa 1916 and the old First National Bank that was open for business between 1916 and 1928. Spread out through these buildings are over 7000 artifacts. There are such items here as a model A mail car, an actual blacksmith shop, a pioneer kitchen, school and church memorabilia from area churches, ranch and farm items, Richey Herald and Richey Pilot newspaper files and post office records from Richey, Axtell, Sullivan and Paxton post offices
