Glennallen District Court

Glennallen is one of the newer towns in Alaska; it did not come into being as a town until around 1940 when it served as a highway construction camp for the Glenn Highway. The area however was populated for many years by the indigenous Ahtna people. Due to the fact that the town is at the edge of the Wrangell-St. Elias National park and preserve, it has become a base for guides, outfitters and tour companies. In January the town is the starting point for the Copper Basin 300 Dog Sled race. Nearby Kennecott Mill Town is a quick trip on tour. This is a ghost town which appears as it did when the mine was in operation. when the town was abandoned by the the Kennecott Copper corporation in the late 1930’s, it left behind equipment, buildings and personal belongings.
