Gurdon was another one of those towns founded late in the 19th century as a lumber stop along the railroad. A mill and wood cutter company was one of the first businesses in the city and the city’s economy is still primarily based on the timber industry. If you’ve never heard of them before please note that the International Concatenated Order of the Hoo Hoo was founded here and is the oldest industrial fraternal organization in the nation.
