About the area
The first settler to the area and his son-in-law founded Pocahontas as the county seat of Randolph county. The city is in an area that at one time belonged to both France and Spain. It was also part of the District of Louisiana, District of New Madrid, Territory of Missouri and Territory of Arkansas as well as being part of the state of Missouri.
