About the area

New London is home to the U.S.Naval Station and a submarine base. It is known to be one of the deepest harbors on the east coast which explains the reasons for the submarine base and naval station to be located here. The US Coast Guard academy is also located in New London. The area is heavily guarded by these instruments as it is. New London is connected to New York and Boston through Amtrak. The Thames River also runs along the city and is known to be very scenic during fall. Sometimes you are led to think that Connecticut was built to reminisce England because it was home to a few settlers from England who probably wanted to create an England away from England and the result was Connecticut.
New London is also one end of a ferry ride to Block Island. Groton is across the river.
