The Wieting Theatre, circa 1912, was at one time the showcase opera house in the area. It has now been restored to its splendor of 100 years ago. The theater has a unique feature, a wing stage on either side of the main stage, allowing entertainment to continue non-stop during scenery changes. While it is primarily a movie house there are also performances by actors, musicians, singers and dancers at other times. If you are visiting this city try to take in an evening at this grand old entertainment palace. Another interesting place to visit is the Tama County museum. Here you can see Indian and pioneer artifacts, books, clothing, children’s toys, tools, household items, furniture, military uniforms and other memorabilia. If you visit the second floor of this building, which at one time was the County Jail, you will be surprised to find some of the original cells of the old Jail including the solitary confinement cell.
