The town of Kirwin took its name from nearby Camp Kirwin, a stockade used by the 12th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalary in 1865. The old train depot is still standing looking as it did when the railroad came through here although the same can not be said of an impressive old building, on the main square, which is falling into ruin. Perhaps some people in town will decide it’s worth saving.
