New Ulm is home to Martin Luther College a college of ministry serving the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Flandrau State Park, which has the Big Cottonwood river running through it, lies on the Southeast edge of New Ulm. There’s a sand-bottom swimming pond, picnic area, campgrounds and group center in this park. Works Progress Administration had its hand in building this park with stone buildings which are still standing. Flat trails and more challenging routes on the oak-shaded bluffs provide many hours of enjoyment for hikers and cross-country skiers. This city, too has its requesite municipal airport for this part of the state.
