An annual railroad festival is held in Amory to celebrate the establishment of the city by theKansas City, Memphis & Birmingham railroad; the forerunner of the Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) in these parts. Since the establishment of the city the Mississippian Railway, a 25-mile short line railroad which still operates daily between Fulton and Amory is run by Homan Industries . It connects with the BNSF. The festival features outstanding entertainment, delectable food and quality arts and crafts. A new four car mall-type type train has been added as a feature of the Railroad Festival. The Amory Regional Museum is housed in a Mississippi Historical Landmark which was once served as Gilmore Sanitarium and home to Amory’s hospital. It showcases artifacts dating from 10,000 BC as well as exhibits by contemporary artists and archives many textiles, military memorabilia, photographs and other information representative of our history and the accomplishments of our citizens including the railroad heritage of the town..
