Butler County Veterans Memorial wall, located in front of the The Black River coliseum, in Poplar Bluff is truly an awesome sight. It is made up of large black granite panels, on which names of veterans are inscribed with a walkway in front of the wall constructed of brick. In the center of the Memorial there are four flagpoles that fly the National, State, City, and POW-MIA flags. There are also granite pylons for inscribing names of veterans killed in action which are illuminated during the hours of darkness. The memorial is striking with its 100 foot length, two 32 feet tapered sides and 89 black granite panels. The Black River coliseum has an auditorium for the presentation of concerts and other events as well as a meeting room, aquatic center and fitness center.
