Sunrise Beach, which arose after construction of the Bagnell Dam by the Union Electric company at the beginning of the 1930’s creating the Lake of the Ozarks, is located on the west side of the lake. Because of its location it is populated by many resorts and marinas. The Hurricane Deck tower, is a steel tower rising almost 80 feet above the park at Highway 5. It was constructed in the early 1940’s as a lookout tower for fires, but is rarely used now.
