Charleston Municipal Court

The first settler to Mississippi county arrived around 1800, however it wasn’t until settlement on the land to the North of where Charleston now stands and various land sales that the original land for Charleston was purchased and the city was laid out around 1837. Several homes of the Victorian period are still standing in town. There is the Moore House occupied until 1997 by members of the original family, the Drinkwater Home (circa 1866), the Paul B. Moore Home, the Shelby Home and the Goodin Home. There are nine parks in Charleston which have facilities such as picnic grounds, pavilions, basketball courts, playgrounds, a swimming pool, fishing ponds, tennis courts and football and baseball fields.
