Memphis seems like a nice place to live with under 2000 residents. Despite this small population it boasts of a a hospital, airport, nursing home, community theatre, industry and recreational activities as well as a fine school system. The Memphis Theatre opened as a movie theater and remained as such until the late 1990’s. When the Memphis Community Players took it over, it underwent a renovation and became the venue for live musical and dramatic performances and movies. The Downing House museum exhibits a life size model of Ella Ewing, the Missouri giant born in Scotland county who stood 8 feet 4 inches tall and at one time appeared in the P.T. Barnum circus. The building is of brick construction and was designed primarily in the Greek Revival style of architecture.
