The large Powerhouse which was built around 1907 is now the Missouri mining history and mineral resources museum. At present three galleries are open to the public. The first of these has on display underground mining equipment used during the long history of the Old Lead Belt, which includes a small one-ton ore car and a huge 15-ton electric trolley locomotive. Another item on display here is a mechanical loader on crawler tracks known as a St. Joe shovel. In the second gallery you will see displayed exhibits on Missouri geology and mineral resources including an unusual mineral collection. The third gallery has some some really big stuff; two large Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company electric-powered air compressors and a 65-foot-long overhead bridge crane supporting a large chain hoist built around 1907. The St. Joe State Park covers over 8,000 acres and has an off-road vehicle riding area approximately 2,000 acres in size.
