Sheridan County Court/Plentywood Justice Court

Around 1889 when Valley county was created its county seat was Glasgow. However the Eastern residents of this new county found Glasgow to be too far and voted in 1913 to create Sheridan County with Plentywood as the county seat. Prior to this time cattle companies came here to take advantage of the miles of the free grass North of the Missouri River. Along with the cattlemen came the bank robbers, horse and cattle thieves and some mean outlaws. From 1901 through 19096 the cattlemen were plagued by prairie fires and severe winters. Around 1902 a stage line was created to run between Culbertson and Plentywood. The Sherwood Airport located near Plentywood has a runway approximately 3900 feet in length, a full parallel taxiway, lighting and other improvements. The annual Sheridan County fair is held at the end of July in Plentywood.
