Elmer was designed to be a ‘Town Center’ under a Master Plan, to be able to cater to it’s residents and folks from neighboring towns too. This tiny town of 1400 people has a base area of a square mile and prides in being a ‘Small Town with a Big Welcome’. It is believed that the town got it’s name from Judge Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Elmer a respected judge and a resident of the town. In the early 1900s, glass industries, shoe and sewing factories and saw mills inundated this town. Today, none of these industries exist. However, it has everything else one could ask for. The state-of-the-art Elmer Community Hospital founded by local residents in mid 1900s and the family owned indigenous newspaper ‘Elmer Times’ are living proofs of this thriving and wonderful community.
