About the area
Beacon sits on the east bank of the Hudson River. The Newburgh-Beacon Bridge connects I-84 travelers to Newburgh on the west bank of the Hudson. Just east of Beacon is Mt. Beacon, where during the American Revolution, signal fires were lit to warn of the invading British. This beacon gave the city its name.
