The name Schodack is a corruption of the Indian name Esquatak, which means “the fireplace of the nation,” because the council-seat of the Mohican Indians was located here. The Dutch settled here in 1609, shortly after Henry Hudson discovered the area. The Town of Schodack incorporates the villages and hamlets of Braeside, Brookview, Castleton, E.Schodack, Muitzes Kill, Nassau Lake, Schodack Ctr, Stony Point, Schodack Island, Morey Park, Rice Corners, Rosecrans Park, Shivers Corners, S.Schodack, Van Hoesen Station, Masten’s Corners,Schodack Depot,Schodack Landing. The beautiful Schodack Island State Park is located within its limits along the Hudson River.
The Rensselaer County DA prosecutes the cases. A town prosecutor has been handling traffic cases lately.
Traffic, criminal, civil, environmental conservation, local law and small claims. Plenty of speeding tickets from I-90 and the Berkshire Spur.
