Shandaken Town Court

Shandaken means “Land of Rapid Waters” (short bathroom breaks?) or “Place of Hemlocks” (Socrates drank here). Don’t ask us how it can be two radically different things – that’s a Native American thing we hear. Two German families settled in Great Shandaken in 1752 – which later became The Corner, and now Mt Pleasant. Aaron Adams of Pine Hill (and the Old Pine Tavern 1810 – 1815) is best remembered for his great fiddling – & his time in the State Legislature.
