Albany is the county seat and major city in Linn county with over 48,000 residents. There are several museums worth visiting. The Albany Regional Museum houses a collection of old Albany memorabilia, photos and artifacts. There is even a shoeshine stand popular in Albany for decades. The Albany Carousel and Dentzel American Carousel Museum is both a carving studio and museum where volunteers are building a traditional carousel for Albany’s downtown historical district using a Dentzel mechanism dating back to 1909. The The Monteith House is the first frame structure built in Albany and is authentically restored. Visitors can see the pioneer kitchen where the original owner used to prepare meals or the original piano brought by covered wagon.
