Salem Justice Court

Cascades Gateway Park a huge park lying at the West side of Salem has three major picnic areas. There are boating and fishing facilities in Walter Wirth Lake and Mill Stream. Adding to the fishing is the fact that Mill Stream is the spawning area for fall Chinook Salmon. There is also a swimming beach and bathhouse-concession building with a bridge across Mill Creek to the picnic areas. Deepwood is an approximately 4 acre site whose centerpiece is a Victorian mansion with carriage house and formal landscaped gardens. An open meadow and a wooded area called “Deep Woods” complete this beautiful attraction. Deepwood House was built by a local doctor in the 1890’s. The third owner of the house aided by her friends who were landscape architects developed the gardens. This site is now on the National Register of Historic Places
