Elgin is a railroad town and was built for a depot.Slowly people started settling here because it was a convenient drop off point for them. However the city has expanded in leaps and bounds today. Many people come to the shopping mall of Elgin and in spite of a very historical prominence, Elgin still is very modern. The dichotomy of Elgin is its very culture. Visiting the city parks and the downtown shopping zone will give you a fairly good idea of what we are talking about.
