Havre is a railroad town dating back over 100 years when the first trains came to the area and it became a transportation hub, providing goods and supplies to the area trappers, miners and military stationed at Fort Assinniboine. This town has retained and restored enough buildings to have a Residential Historic district a Downtown Business district and a Railroad Historic districts. The H. Earl Clack museum relates the story of the area through its dioramas and interpretive displays. An exhibit of dinosaur eggs and embryos found nearby that are said to be 75 million years old and the rare skull of a stygimoloch dinosaur are also on display here. The town is home to the Northern branch of Montana State university. Havre has a relatively big park system with twenty sites providing a swimming pool, baseball/softball fields, tennis courts, sand volleyball, basketball, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, restrooms, walking/exercise trails and picnic areas.
