This is not the Rocky Mount in North Carolina a popular stop for travelers to Florida. It is the Rocky Mount in Virginia which has been the seat of Franklin County since it was formed around 1786. The annual Pigg River Ramble is a three day water event held in mid May. First there the Blackwater Blackout a night float on the Blackwater River. Then comes the Pigg River Ramble a competitive canoe and kayak race and fun float held on the Pigg River. The event is capped by Breakfast on The Blackwater a leisurely 3 mile float, and a post-awards ceremony. The annual Warren Street festival is held in August at the Farmers market in this city; to celebrate Warren Street and its history. There’s a Classic Car show and local bands performing. You can get the usual stomach stuffers hot dogs, ribs, fried fish, barbecue and ice cream and special entertainment is provided for the kids.
