This area was originally inhabited by the Accomack, the southern extension of the Powhatan Indian Empire here on the Shore. James Brown’s Dry Goods Store, Cessford building, Eastville Mercantile, Kendall Grove buildingand the Northampton County Courthouse Historic District in Eastvlle are listed National Register of Historic Places. The old courthouse in this town has the distinction of being the place where you can find the oldest continuous court records in the United States.
